But then I had a more interesting idea. I was thinking conceptually about about me being sort of a creator.. I make these sort of beings come to life through drawing or animating them. All character designers and animators essentially do this. Whenever I've thought deepily about why I draw, and why I keep wanting to do it is because.. These creations of mine have sort of come alive really. And sometimes my characters surprise me. It's kind of like they've become their own beings. When other people have drawn my characters, they do something and I'm like.. I never would have thought of that myself, and yet it is so in character for them. Anyway, I'm rambling.
Basically I would just like to re-connect with my characters.. I guess have a connection with them like I do in my mind, but translate this into a piece. My first instincts was to do an animation of a paper cut-out character of mine going around my room. But later I saw this animation and I got more ideas:
While what is conceptually happening in the piece find kind of boring, how they've created it is really interesting. I suspect they've used a green-screen for their hand and digitally animated the characters. I wouldn't want to do it digitally, I think drawing on paper would emphasize my concept more. I think actually drawing and animating the characters directly with my hands makes more sense than layering an animation underneath my hands. I mean I could do that using the green-screen at uni, Flash and Final Cut. But it doesn't really appeal to me. I just think animation looses a bit of it's soul when it's digitally constructed. Though I will have to use digital means to put the frames together, I think it will just be more organic if I've literally drawn them with my hands. I've also always wanted to try pixelation.
