Reflection

I think the biggest strength in my work is the imagery, the most effective parts being the animal movements made completely out of text. I wanted these animals to represent calmness transcending into anxiety. I believe I achieved this. Another strong aspect of the work is the random construction; I did not intend for this piece to be narrative or logical. It is surreal, poetic and dream-like as I imagined. One weakness of the work is the composition. For example, when I look back on the mole now; I think the emotion would have been more intense and dramatic if it had been animated from an obscure angle.

The main weaknesses in the piece are due to the audio. One issues being the overall rapidness of the images; they flash by too quickly and it’s difficult absorbing it all simultaneously. I found that many of my friends would ask for me to replay the film, because it went too fast. This was because I didn’t plan the audio very efficiently. I should have created an animatic to help visualise the timing better. Another reason the sound is choppy (near the end) and lacks depth (the heartbeat) is my lack of expertise in the area; this is the first time I have created my own sound track. I am going to explore and experiment with sound in my spare time so I can improve. I’d like to add that all sounds, images and animation were original creations of mine.
