My project started by looking at flash interactives and games online. The biggest inspirations for this work was Vectorpark by Patrick Smith. Another big inspiration was Samorost by Amanita Design. I decided I wanted to expand my technical knowledge for this project, while also focusing on the concept and aesthetics. I began working with game templates as a starting point, but then moved on from that and started experimenting with ideas for characters and interactive plants. I began animating, then after this step began looking at many coding tutorials online and discovering that none of them really achieved what I intended.
At this point I approached Matt Daniels with some questions and he offered to send me some examples via email. We kept conversing and he helped me understand the beginning of coding using ActionScript 3. Previously the only coding knowledge I had in flash was with ActionScript 2. He helped me with the coding elements throughout the project and I have a much greater understanding now. I also learned more about the flash interface itself; such as applying affects, working with gradients and smoothing bitmaps. For the music I mixed and heavily edited two different songs together that came to mind through working on the visuals. The other sounds are either my own sound effects created through experimenting with recordings I made, then adding different effects to them.
The songs I used in the mix were:
Pink Floyd – Echoes
Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight Tonight
